Oliebollen

Oliebollen is a traditional food for dutch people. They usually eat this during New Year's eve and during funfairs. It is sometimes called Dutch Donut in english. The dough is made up of flour, eggs, yeast, salt, milk, baking powder and raisins or apple slices. They will cook it in a hot wok or deep fryer until golden brown. And it is serve with powdered sugar.

I tried my first Oliebollen last month when we bought it in the bakery. It taste like donut with raisins. It is yummy. This coming New Year's Eve, my Parents-in-law will make Oliebollen. Im sure it will be yummy!

MVV Application for a dutch Wife

To all the Filipina/Filipino who are married to a dutch man/woman and planning to apply for the MVV. All you need to do are:

  • After marriage, wait for the Marriage Certificate from NSO (National Statistics Office). In my case, it took 21 working days before I got it.
  • Go to DFA main office in Authentication Department for the Red Ribbon. I suggest you to authenticate 2 Marriage contracts and 1 Birth Certificate. It will take 5 working days before you will get your papers back.
  • Go to the Netherlands Embassy or Cebu consulate for the Legalization of papers. Check in Netherlands Embassy website for the payment. It is on the Tarrif Section. It will take 5 working days.
  • When you got the papers, send it to your husband/wife in Netherlands for the Gemeente (City hall) Registration. It will take 8 weeks to be fully registered because Gemeente will send it to IND and the Politie (police) and check if the marriage is real. They will make some few investigations.
  • Take the Basis Examen in Netherlands Embassy Manila. (Click the Home to see about the Exam and procedures).
  • You can apply right away your MVV in the Netherlands Embassy Manila and it wil take 3 months before the result.
  • OR you can file advice in IND for more secure result. It is a free paper checking and you will get result after 4-5 weeks. If it is a positive advice, you can get your MVV after 5 days or 14 days if you will take D+C visa.

Hope this clears your questions. Goodluck! Just leave me a message for more questions or read my other posts.

TaalMarkt in Landstede Harderwijk

Yesterday was the scheduled taalMarkt in preparation for the Inburgering examen. The said activity is so important for allthe students. We had our taalmarkt at Landstede Harderwijk. Each of the student will be given envelopes with their names and class level. I am A1-A2 Level. You need to talk with the teachers in dutch with some situations and you have to answer them. It was a little hard for me. After 3 situations, you can go to the other room for the reading and writing skills. I finished the reading in writing in just 10 minutes, quite easy for me. Unwanted Calls

I received an unwanted call from my phone last week. I don't know who was she. All she ask was If I am Jen, and I said, Yes, I told her my complete name. She said, She has different name. So I asked her, where did you get my number then? She didn't reply and cut off the call. So I tried to call and text her back but she's not answering. I was really confused who was that and why she called me.

I searched her number over the net and found a good site which you can report unwanted calls from unwanted numbers. Phone Number Reporting is a good way to know what the caller wants on you because there are lots of same numbers calling on each one of us. Maybe those numbers are from scammers. Better be safe than sorry.

So if you receive calls from number you don't know, search it on their site!

Hubby dropped me off around 8:45, classes starts at 9:15 AM.
Our teacher is so nice, She explains so slow so we can understand. This day, we are talking about the time, how to say it in dutch and how to write it. It was not that hard for me. I already know how to say and write it. Some makes it hard because they don't know how to write the Roman alphabets. They are using the Arabic, mostly are muslims.

is the Civic exam in Netherlands still required?

A friend told me that the Civic Exam in Netherlands is no longer required next year. It's a good news for all the new couples out there. For me, that would be great too, because when you arrived here in holland, you are required to take a dutch language course for 1 or 2 years, depending in your ability to catch up.

I read one article in IND website about this issue.

"On 15 July 2008, Amsterdam District Court ruled that a Moroccan woman who wishes to live with her husband in the Netherlands will not be required to first pass the civic integration examination in her country of origin. According to the judge, there is no basis for this requirement in the Aliens Act 2000.The State Secretary of Justice has appealed the court's decision. In the meantime, the current policy remains unchanged and the requirement to pass the civic integration examination abroad in order to obtain a provisional residence permit for family reunification still applies. We will of course keep you informed in the event of any changes in this regard."

Hopefully it will change next year.

Belastingdienst

Belastingdienst is a the dutch goverment tax company. For Dutch wifes who are staying at home or no work, they can get monthly income or pay from the goverment.
A friend of mine told me about it. We applied right away after I got my residence permit. Now I am recieving more than €2000 a year or more than €200.00 every month. They are dividing it into monthly basis.

As of now, I am recieving €418.00 a month because when we filled up, it was 5 months left, so they divided it into 5 from the yearly income. But by January it will be back into €200. That is better than nothing.

To all the dutch wives who don't have work, tell your husbands to fill up the form online, just search for the belastingdienst word.

Everybody of us feels that everytime we are away from the place and people we used to lived with. The feeling of longing is often accompanied by anxiety and depression. This might occur from mild to severe.

Living in different place is so new to me. I feel sad everytime I remember my family and my country. I wanted to cry and cry. I'm not used of being away from them. I choosed this path of my life and I have to deal with it.

why Dutch Language course is Important?

Dutch is the basic language in Netherlands. Every foreigner that have decided to live here in Netherlands for good should take the dutch language course. In this way, you are able to communicate to the people around you. You will learn how dutch people talk and work.
You will take an exam to determine whether you have sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language. This is called the integration examination: when you pass the exam you speak sufficient Dutch to take part in Dutch society.

The Gemeente or City hall will pay your dutch course including the travel expenses. That is a relief for us because if you pay it alone, it will cost you €4600 and travel expenses. It is very expensive. When you are in Netherlands, go to the city hall and talk with the incharge. They will interview you and make an appointment at school.

After taking the course, you will have an Integration Examination for your dutch Citizenship. If you will not pass that exam, they will not approve your citizenship.
The Inburgeren website is ready to answer your questions.

The Netherlands!

The Kingdom of the Netherlands consists of three parts: the Netherlands in Western Europe and the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba in the Caribbean. The Netherlands proper has a surface area of 41,526 square kilometres. It is flanked to the north and west by the North Sea, to the east by Germany and to the south by Belgium.
The Netherlands is very flat and nearly a quarter of its area is below sea level. This is where the Netherlands gets its name ("nether" which means low), though the name Holland is frequently used. Strictly speaking, this name refers to the two western coastal provinces, North and South Holland, which played an important role in the country`s history.
The country`s location near the sea also influences its climate. The average temperature is 17 degrees Celsius in summer, and two degrees Celsius in the winter. On average, 760mm of rain falls each year, fairly evenly distributed over the seasons.
The soil in the south and east of the country, where the landscape alternates between woodland and health, mainly consists of sand and gravel. The soil in the west and the north mainly consists of clay and peat. The landscape in this region which is criss-crossed by countless rivers and canals, is made up mainly of polders, such as reclaimed land, protected from flooding by dikes.

The Dutch Royal Queen

Queen Beatrix succeeded her mother as Queen of the Netherlands in 1980. From that date, Her Majesty formed part of the government. The Queen was married to Prince Claus. They had three sons: Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso and Prince Constantijn. The eldest, Prince Willem-Alexander – the Prince of Orange – will succeed her.
The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy: the position of the monarch is laid down in the Constitution. The monarch is the Dutch head of state and, together with the ministers, makes up the government. Queen Beatrix has been the head of state of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 1980.

She would change him forever!

"She didn't belong. She was misunderstood. And she would change him forever."
That is a famous tagline from the award winning movie "A walk to Remember" wayback in 2002. I really liked that movie a lot, I think I watched it for 5 times! It is such a nice love story of Landon Carter and Jaime Sullivan. In real life, those re Shane West and Mandy Moore. They are such a cute pair. You can always use that tagline in your own life's love story. Im sure there are so many out there who can relate in this.

I found a nice site to play taglines! It is the VO5 Ultimate Flirting Championship Extreme Style by VO5 . I was enjoying playing with it. It is so fun and cool. You can play with the classic lines you have and use it to win! I will diffinitely play again in there.

Go at the site now and play. You will really love it as how I did.

Worst Pick up Line

Have you been out and heard a worst pick up line lately?
Because I did. I have been out last week to buy something on the shop nearby. When I was getting some drinks at the rack, I saw this guy coming to me and saying "Hey Girl, What's up? Guess what? It's your lucky day. Out of all the girls here, I picked you to talk to". I was shocked because I don't know him at all. He is tall with this Stylish Hair Extreme Style by VO5. He is so cool with that hair style but I told him, " Sorry, I need to go, my husband is waiting at me on the house. Look for someone who has the same cool hairstyle as you have". I smiled at him and go at the counter to pay. Before I left, I saw him talking to a girl with same cool hairstyle as him.

He can talk with those girls right away because of his cool hair style. So, if you want to talk to the girls you like and have that cool hairstyle, I suggest you to play
THE ULTIMATE FLIRTING CHAMPIONSHIPExtreme Style by VO5 . It is so cool and fun, I tried to play it. Chaffer thier site now and play your game!

How to Apply for the Civic Exam?

If you are planning on taking the civic exam in Netherlands, your partner must apply for it online first. There is an application form in IND website. After the application, IND will send you mail with informations on where to pay for it. After they recieve the payment, they will send you another mail on the exam number and your fiancee can call the embassy for an appointment.

Got this one from the IND website.

How do you apply
The fees for the civic integration examination abroad (€350) are paid into the central bank account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands. The following payment procedure applies in this respect:

  • In most cases, the candidate who wishes to take the civic integration examination abroad has a sponsor in the Netherlands. Responsibility for payment therefore lies with the sponsor, in principle
  • The sponsor in the Netherlands completes the application form on the IND's website. This form is forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • A message is automatically sent to the sponsor's e-mail address stating the payment details and a unique reference number
  • The sponsor transfers the examination fee to the account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by bank transfer. Please note: it is important that the reference number and the name of the candidate are stated!
  • Once the payment has been received, a confirmation of receipt will be sent to the sponsor's e-mail address stating that the candidate may contact the Dutch representation in order to make an appointment.

long distance relationship

After our marriage, Hubby has to go back home and work for us while I am miles away from him. We wanted to have a normal marriage life as couple but because of the country's rules, we can't stay together for more than a year.

Long distance relationship is not as easy as what others think. It is the hardest part of a relationship. There are times that we wanted to hug each other but how? We only communicate through chatting and phone. He visits me in Philippines every after 6 months! Yeah, 6 months! Long days, weeks and months to wait.

We were so happy when we all have the papers and the visa on hand. And now, I am here in Netherlands for 2 months and with a 2 months pregnancy.

All I think of our situation before was worst! So take my Relationship Advice. Trust and love your partner! It is the most powerful thing in this relationship!

Bringing your partner to Netherlands

There are two ways to bring your beloved fiancee/wife to Netherlands.

First is, if you want to rejoin your spouse or partner in the Netherlands. This is called ‘family reunification’. You were already a family when you lived abroad together.

Second is, if you want to live with your spouse or partner in the Netherlands; you have not lived together before. This is called ‘establishing a family’. When you started a relationship or got married, you were already living in the Netherlands. Your spouse or partner was living abroad at this time.
There are specific conditions for this processes.

  • you are married and your marriage has been registered in the Netherlands, in the municipal personal records database [Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie];
  • or you are both unmarried and you are able to prove this with official legalised documents;
  • you are not a danger to public order
  • you are 21 or older. In the case of family reunification, you must be 18 or older;
  • you will live with your spouse or partner as soon as he/she arrives in the Netherlands:-
  • you are intending to run a joint household;- he is going to register himself at the same address as you.
  • he/she is required to take the Civic Integration Examination Abroad (Caution: he/she is exempted from taking the civil integration test if he/she has the American, Australian, Canadian, Japanese, New Zealand or South Korean nationality).
  • you are 21 or older. In the case of family reunification, you must be 18 or older;
  • you enjoy sufficient income in the Netherlands

Check with the embassy site in your country for the documents needed.
Hope I am able to help you.

MVV requirements

What you need are the following:

Passport
Latest 2x2 colored picture
Partner's copy of passport (scanned or photocopy)
Legalised Marriage contract
Legalised Birth certificate
Exam Result (PASSED)
Travel Insurance valid for 6 months (for D+C visa)

There are 2 different kinds of visa:

The C visa which you don't need a travel insurance anymore but you can't go out of the country while you don't have your residence Permit.

The D+C visa which you have to get a travel insurance and you can stroll at other european countries while waiting for the residence permit.

If you had the advice from IND, you don't need to pay anything in the embassy. Just prepare money for the Delbros (sending the visa in your place) if you are far from Makati. It is much easier than picking up you visa.

My MVV application

When we recieved a mail from IND that my advice was positive. On the following day I called the Netherlands Embassy in Philippines to set an appointment for my MVV application. I called April 13,2008 and got the appointment date of May 15, 2008. That was so long to wait. I thought when I will call for appointment they can serve me on the following week, but I was wrong. So I have to wait again.

I went in Makati at May 14, 2008 and checked-in in a hotel near the embassy. On the following day, I went at the embassy around 7:30 am, appointment time was 8:00am. Good that I already have the application form of MVV (got it the last time I was in the Embassy) so I don't need to fill up there.

When I was in the building, I got my priority number and seated, waiting for my turn to be called. When the counter 1 called me, he has some few questions, get my finger print. It was an easy one because we already have our Positive Advice from IND. When he got everything what he need, he asked me if I will pick it up or use the Delbros. I used Delbros because Im from Mindanao and don't want to go back again to manila just to pick it up. After paying for the Delbros, he called me again to give me the informations I need. I went back home on the afternoon.

I am suppose to wait for 2 weeks for my Visa because I got a D+C visa (while you don't have your residence permit you can go out in other europe countries) and C visa (only in Netherlands when you don't have your residence permit).
Luckily I got my visa after 10 days. It was a fast one.

IND advice

We don't know from the Start that we need to do the ADVICE from IND. So we decided to do it instead of applying here at the embassy first. It is a free service which is given to the couples who wanted to have a family reunification. The applicants should have the correct paper requirements. Sponsor should have the required salary of IND to pass this advice. It will make the process easier and cheaper.
Here are some ways:

The application for a Provisional Residence Permit (MVV)

There are two ways to start the procedure for obtaining an Provisional Residence Permit (MVV).

  • A sponsor in the Netherlands starts the MVV procedure by submitting a request for advice to the IND

    or
  • You can submit an application for an MVV to the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country of origin

The request for advice by a sponsor serves to support your subsequent MVV application to the embassy. The Decision made on this application is either positive or negative. You may not submit an application for review with regard to this decision.

The application you make to the embassy is the official application. With regard to a negative Decision on this application, you may submit an application for review.

A sponsor in the Netherlands submits to the IND a request for advice concerning a Provisional Residence Permit (MVV)

1. Your sponsor in the Netherlands fills in the form “Request for recommendation to obtain a Provisional Residence Permit (MVV)” and returns it to the IND, together with all required documents. The documents required are listed on the form.

2. If the IND responds positively, you then submit your application for the MVV to the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country of origin.

3. You will not be issued an MVV if you do not meet the conditions, nor will you be issued an MVV if your documents are invalid, incomplete or incorrect. You may not submit an application for review with respect to a negative advice.
You apply for the Provisional Residence Permit (MVV) in your own country of origin.

This is our time line for the advice:

03/03/08- mailed the requirements for the advice in IND
03/04/08- IND received the papers
04/08/08- IND has decided for the advice
04/10/08- Eric received the POSITIVE ADVICE

Marriage registration in Holland

After i took the exam, i thought it will be easier, but i was wrong. We have to undergo a lot or paper processes.
First step was registering our marriage to the Gementee. Gementee is the City hall in the place/ city they are living.

Eric registered our marriage on January 8, 2008, 1 day after his vacation in Philippines. We wanted to finish it as soon as possible. He wanted to have a normal married life as a couple. But looks like we will be waiting again.

It took us almost 8 weeks before we got the papers back. It is longer than usual, but we can't do anything to make it faster, its the fastest. huh.. Government really works so slow! AS USUAL!

the IT Day

It was the day i am waiting for, my Exam day. My hubby flew on Dec. 09, 2007 to be with me on the my exam day, to give me moral support.

Prior on that day, i was very scared i might not pass it, i was crying hard, good that My Hubby was there. We wake up so early, eat breakfast and study more. We ate lunch early at 11am to be at the embassy by 12:00 noon. My appointment time is 1pm. We stayed in a while in the cafeteria downstairs to wait for the time. After a while we went up. The guard told us to wait, and they will just call my name.

After few minutes, the dutch woman called me up to enter the room, Eric was left outside. I was shaking and nervous. The exam was fast, and i answered the questions correctly. When it was done, the dutch woman told me to wait for the result outside. I went out, and sit beside my hubby.

The woman called my name again, and told me that i passed the exam. I was very happy, very very happy. I even jumped out of my happiness, lol. Even the guard laughed at my reaction.. hehehe. I did my best, and it was so enough for that time. I am coming in Holland SOON!

Exam Study Guides

I was so hopeless for this Exam, it was on my mind at first that i cannot pass this, so i went to the forums and posted a topic on people who had took the exam, for them to share their study guides and knowledge on how hard is it.
Luckily, someone emailed me and she said, she is also a filipina who had passed the exam last year. I was so happy knowing someone that will gonna help me, She gave me inspirations and advices to be able to pass the Exam. She told me that exam is not as hard as what i am thinking, and She was right! Most of all, she gave me Study guides on what i have to study most. Thanks a bunch Ate Che! I owe you a lot.

Basisexamen Inburgering

Basisexamen Inburgering or Civic Integration Exam is a language and society exam for people who are planning to stay and live for good in Netherlands. People who are applying for MVV should take this exam. This rule was effective last March of 2006. People who are 16-65 years old should complete and pass the said exam in the country of residence. The examination is given orally by a computer system at the Royal Dutch Embassy and you have to pay 350 Euros.

I had took the exam last December 2007 in Royal Netherlands Emabassy in Makati, Philippines.. With the help of my hubby on teaching me dutch and my will to be able to pass the said Exam, I did it! I was so happy that time.

The night before i took the exam, i was crying, because i was so afraid that i may fail in the exam. I can't take that people who are believing on me will be sad if i won't pass it; but luckily..hehe i did it.
Eric was so proud, so as my parents and his parents and family.
Ill gonna share my study guides on my next post.
